Covid-19 cases had contact with other cluster members in Level 3 - Ardern

From Morning Report, 7:22 am on 1 March 2021

Auckland is back in lockdown for the second time in a month after new cases of Covid-19.

The change in restrictions comes after a spate of rule breaking from people who were supposed to be self-isolating.

One of the latest cases had been out in public, including the gym, when they were supposed to be self-isolating, prompting a warning from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern that Covid-19 is deadly and self-isolation rules must be followed.

An epidemiological link between the cases and the existing Papatoetoe cluster could not be found when the cases were first announced, but it was announced on Sunday there was a clear genomic link.

On Monday Ardern revealed to Morning Report further interviewing had revealed the new cases had contact with other members of the Papatoetoe cluster during the previous Alert Level 3 restrictions.

Ardern spoke to Corin Dann.
