Govt orders review into response to Otago towns' lead levels

From Morning Report, 6:37 am on 10 February 2021

The government has ordered an urgent review into health officials' response to lead being discovered in the water supply of two Otago towns.

Karitane and Waikouaiti residents still can't drink from their taps - a week after the Dunedin City Council revealed lead levels had been spiking for months.

Locals are worried and angry - 282 turned up for free blood tests yesterday to see if they've been affected.

Now the Director General of Health alongside independent experts will see if things could have been handled better.

Sally Murphy reports.
