Finance Minister Grant Robertson's public query to the Reserve Bank, asking how it might do more to stabilise house prices, has the support of the National Party.

In fact shadow treasurer Andrew Bayly says National came up with the idea first, having this week expressed concern at the Reserve Bank's Funding for Lending Programme.

Bayly said that lending should be targeted at productive investment, rather than piling more pressure on an over-heated housing market.

National Party leader Judith Collins speaks to Susie Ferguson.
