Chef says restaurant had to cut opening hours due to lack of staff

A Napier chef has been forced to reduce his restaurant's opening hours because he can't find enough staff.

Despite doing a roaring trade seven nights a week since Covid-19 restrictions eased, he believes the lack of foreign tourists means there are not enough willing wait staff to keep up with demand.

He says the government must change visa restrictions which favour primary industry jobs like fruit picking but ignore the hospitality sector.
