Business told to talk to iwi before tapping into Māori culture

From Morning Report, 6:42 am on 23 October 2020

Businesess that want to tap into Māori culture are being told to consult with iwi advisors first.

This after Firth Concrete, a Fletcher Building company, commissioned a Māori and Pasifika design for one of  its concrete trucks.

They're calling it a "tā moko", and saying that it is about the companies journey to tikanga Māori.

Toi Māori operations manager Aotearoa manager Tamahou Temara told our reporter Meriana Johnsen that while its been done with the best intensions there are some inaccuracies.

Fletcher Building declined to be interviewed.
