Auckland testing centres closed by stealth - Dr Api Talemaitoga

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 21 October 2020

A leading Auckland GP says community testing centres were closed by stealth - and people need to be kept in the loop to encourage them to be tested.

There are no dedicated community testing centres open at the weekend in the city, less than a fortnight after it moved to level two. People need to go to after hours clinics instead, but many are closed on Sundays.

Six community centres are left open during the week, with 14 closing in the past week or two.

Dr Api Talemaitoga says there was no major announcement to GPs or the public.

He told health correspondent Rowan Quinn he's worried that the cut backs, and the lack of communication, could lead to confusion and complacency that could help fuel another outbreak.
