The effort to extinguish the fires at Lake Ōhau in the Mackenzie Basin will continue this morning after warm temperatures and strong winds frustrated firefighters on Monday.
Lake Ōhau locals were allowed to visit their homes yesterday - albeit in a controlled way, and from a distance.
On Tuesday some residents will be allowed home to collect essentials.
