Peters reminds Tiwai Point workers he wants to keep it open

From Morning Report, 8:15 am on 9 September 2020

Winston Peters has just met with Tiwai Point workers to remind them of New Zealand First's promise to keep the aluminium smelter open for another two decades.

In July Rio Tinto announced production would end at the smelter in August 2021, putting more than 2500 jobs on the line.

The smelter's survival and the impact it will have on Southland jobs has become a campaign issue, but Peters is accusing other political parties of complicating and compromising his message.

Political reporter Jo Moir is on the campaign trail with New Zealand First and speaks to Corin Dann from Tiwai Point.
