Government wants foreign student industry transformation post-Covid

The government wants to use Covid-19's disruption of the stricken $5 billion foreign student industry to bring in permanent change.

A Cabinet paper from June reveals a desire for higher-value enrolments, more online courses, a reduced emphasis on associated work visas and less reliance on students from certain countries.

The education sector says New Zealand's handling of the outbreak will attract students but is dubious how much change is needed.
