Local mayoral elections are being held across France despite new restrictions announced during the weekend.
All non-essential public spaces including cafes, restaurants, cinemas and gyms have been closed and the French prime minister Edouard Phillippe has urged people to reduce their travel.
Around 4,500 cases of the coronavirus has so far been reported in France.
