Residents meet over spate of arsons near Lake Taupō

From Morning Report, 6:46 am on 30 January 2020

A sixth arson in the space of two weeks has residents in settlements along the eastern shore of Lake Taupo worried and frightened.

In early January five properties were sent on fire, two homes were destroyed and in one a family only just managed to escape the flames with their lives.

And on Sunday, garden furniture on the deck of a home in Waitetoko was sent of fire.

Residents gathered for a hui on the Waitetoko Marae last night to get the latest information from police.

Taupō police area commander Warwick Morehu told our reporter Andrew McRae the purpose of the meeting was to assure residents all was being done to try to solve the case.
