Youth counselling service struggles to meet skyrocketing demand

A youth counselling service that concentrates on people dealing with suicide and trauma says it's had to turn people away because of a lack of funding.

Skylight says it provided 13,000 counselling sessions in the last financial year that weren't covered by its baseline government funding.

Chief executive Heather Henare told reporter Jonathan Mitchell an emergency fund ran dry in February and while that's been topped up by big donation, money remains in short supply.
