El Paso mass shooting just hours before Dayton

From Morning Report, 7:11 am on 5 August 2019

A second mass shooting in the US in just 13 hours has left nine people dead and 16 people injured.

The latest massacre was in Dayton, Ohio, and involved a gunman opening fire outside a bar. It's the 250th mass shooting for 2019, in a day when 30 people died.

The first happened in El Paso Texas when a 24-year-old gunman opened fire in a shopping mall, killing twenty and wounding at least 26 more.

The gunman, Patrick Crucius made reference to the manifesto of the man accused of the Christchurch mosque shooting in his own document explaining why he carried out the attack.

Crucius had driven nine-hours from Dallas to carry out his attack.

El Paso police chief Greg Allen called it a hate crime. Our correspondent in Dallas in J.D. Miles.
