Water turns black as Napier wrestles with severe shortage

From Morning Report, 6:39 am on 5 December 2017

Napier's having a water crisis and to make matters worse, some residents turned on taps yesterday to find them flowing with water that was thick and black. A hot spell has left the city's reservoirs low and residents were told yesterday to not use garden hoses to ensure there was still water in the system this morning. The council's director of infrastructure services, Jon Kingsford, told RNZ's Emma Hatton the problem with the black water stemmed for the council switching on a new bore supply.
