Jet fuel shortage: Backup cost would hit consumers - Judith Collins

From Morning Report, 7:13 am on 18 September 2017

Energy minister Judith Collins says it's likely to be 10 days before Auckland airport's jet fuel supply line is repaired.

"Over the years there have been various studies done about the possibility of backups, and the issue has always been the fact that in over 32 years we've never had any problem with the pipeline at all, and the fact the cost of having 100 percent resilience will end up being passed on to consumers," she tells Susie Ferguson.

She says one plan is to look at extra fuel storage in Auckland.

"We've offered any help the companies have asked for... The military do have fuel trucks that can be used," she says.
