SIS Minister says abuse victim should receive apology

From Midday Report, 12:18 pm on 8 December 2020

The Minister responsible for New Zealand's spy agency believes the SIS should apologise to a woman they knew was a victim of rape by her father - if she wants one.

RNZ has revealed the SIS found the evidence that the now-infamous sex offender, Ronald Van Der Plaat, was abusing his daughter in 1989, but did not report it.

The abuse continued for at least two more years before his daughter escaped.

Mr Little says the laws have changed, and he's confident this incident wouldn't be repeated.
