Do Auckland wage and salary earners need a special allowance - an "Auckland weighting" - to offset the high cost of living in the city..?
In 1974 the British government brought in an extra allowance paid to public sector employees working in the British capital to help with recruitment and retention.
Is it now finally time for Auckland to follow suit and would it work ?
