Coromandel tourism businesses prepare for AKers to return

From First Up, 5:43 am on 29 November 2021

Cast your minds back a few months.. say 104 days .. to August 17- the day we found out a Devonport man had tested positive for Covid-19 and the country was going into Level four lockdown.. The unvaccinated man had travelled to the Coromandel the previous weekend.. visiting a hotel, cafe, jewellery store and gas station. Remarkably, whilst Auckland became the centre of the outbreak, nobody in the Coromandel contracted the virus. So as the country prepares to move to the traffic light system later this week and Aucklanders are set free on December 15, how will the Coromandel cope with an influx of domestic tourists? We sent producer Ellie Jay to find out.
