Health review finds failures in 2019 measles epidemic

From Checkpoint, 5:30 pm on 16 September 2020

Contact tracing failed and the vaccination programme was too slow to stop last year's measles epidemic ripping through South Auckland, a new review has found.

More than 2,000 people caught the disease, and 750 were hospitalised, mostly in south Auckland.

New Zealand mostly likely spread the disease to Samoa where it became deadly.

The Ministry of Health says it wants to learn lessons from the review to help it deal better with the coronavirus.
