Auckland quarantine facility readies for community Covid-19 cases

From Checkpoint, 5:25 pm on 13 August 2020

Checkpoint invited Minister Megan Woods, who is in charge of managed isolation and quarantine facilities, to get more information on where these community cases will be accommodated.

She provided this statement:

"We are working with the Ministry of Health to ensure there is capacity within our Auckland quarantine facility to accommodate positive Covid-19 cases.

"Since Tuesday night Air Commodore Webb and his team have been carefully managing capacity to ensure we were ready to rapidly respond should quarantine facilities be required.

"Moving people with Covid-19 into quarantine as we all work together to urgently contain the current outbreak, is an important part of our health response to help prevent the risk of the virus spreading between family members, and to other people in the community.

"Spare capacity at the Auckland quarantine facility is currently 61 rooms after the arrival of today's community cases."
