Frightening stories from 700 women who've suffered stalking and abuse from their partners have prompted calls to review the Harassment Act.

The survey details harrowing accounts of beatings, as well as ex-partners hiding outside houses and tracking through social media pages.

New Zealand Women's Refuge says more than 70 percent of the women surveyed say the stalking started even before separation, but often women feel more unsafe after separation as they fear what their ex-partner might do next.
