Crimes NZ: The Waterfront Payroll Robbery, 1956

From Afternoons, 2:38 pm on 9 April 2020

It's one of the most brazen robberies in New Zealand's history, but it has somehow disappeared into the mists of time.

In November 1956, Auckland mobsters made off with the equivalent today of $1 million after breaking into the Waterfront Industry Commission's offices.

We are joined today by true crime writer Scott Bainbridge, who was so intrigued, he wrote a book about the heist.

The Great New Zealand Robbery is available as an e-book, which you can read on a smartphone, tablet, or computer.  Download the free Kindle app or use the Apple Books app.
