Cook Islands first repatriation flight from New Zealand since the start of the delta outbreak was scheduled to depart early Friday morning.

It is understood 88 people were initially confirmed to board the flight departing from Christchurch for Rarotonga at around 2:30am.

A second repatriation flight from Auckland is scheduled to depart next Friday.

The Cook Islands Deputy High Commissioner to New Zealand, Piakura Passfield, says initally 368 people registered their interest in catching the repatriation flights but the numbers have been fluctuating with eligibility and people changing their plans.

She spoke with Vinnie Wylie who started out asking when they finally knew things were coming together.
