Measles deaths in Samoa an 'appalling outcome' - academic

From , 6:01 am on 17 December 2019

The measles epidemic in Samoa has been a lot more deadly than the New Zealand outbreaks due to differences in health care, childhood nutrition and access to treatment,  says a public health expert.

The University of Otago's Professor Michael Baker says in this digital age comprehensive immunisation registers and rigourous border control could easily help limit the ongoing seeding of the measles virus between the two countries.

Jenny Meyer asked him to explain the impacts of the ongoing measles outbreaks in both countries.
