UN looking for solutions to PNG tribal violence

From , 6:00 am on 3 December 2019

United Nations agencies in Papua New Guinea were working last week in Komo in Hela Province to find solutions to tribal violence.

The first Komo Peace Conference brought together more than 80 local leaders and community representatives from the Komo Rural Local Level Government, the  private sector, development partners, civil society groups, and churches.

Over the two days, the participants talked about the causes and effects of local conflicts in Komo and looked at ways in which communities could contribute to peace and development.

Don Wiseman spoke with the UN Centre's country representative in PNG, Dirk Wagener.
