Mariner Fagaiava-Muller (Iva, Lepā, Saleaula, Nukunuku) is the latest addition to the RNZ Pacific fanau. He is of Samoan and Tongan descent, born and raised in South Auckland. He started out his journalism career at TVNZ on the 1 News assignments desk as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, after interning in the Re: team for a mere couple of weeks. The wind then took him to Wellington where he spent three months interning as a policy analyst at the Ministry of Social Development.

Mariner is now back in the news space at RNZ Pacific, with a keen interest in youth, diasporic and political affairs. He works toward the notion of humbling Western journalism practice through ways of indigenous storytelling. The budding wordsmith is in his penultimate year of a Communications/Business double degree at AUT. Mariner is also a published poet and MC, but more importantly big brother to little sister Finau.
