The Fijiana lost to New Zealand 22-17 in a thrilling semi-final earlier this afternoon.

Great Britain lost to France in their semi-final 26-19.

The Fijiana had stunned Australia in their quarter-final, beating the defending champions 14-12 on Friday.

It was an exceptional performance against New Zealand by the Saiasi Fuli-coached side who led 7-5 at half-time.

A break by Aloesi Nakoci put Reapi Uluinasau into space. But Uluinasau was taken in a high tackle 20 metres from the tryline and from the penalty, Vasiti Solikoviti powered through for a converted try.

New Zealand regrouped but a determined Nakoci chased down Ruby Tui and denied the Black Ferns a try.

The Black Ferns fought hard and scored a try just before halftime. The conversion was unsuccessful.

Fiji started well in the second half and a tackle by captain Rusila Nagasau saw Ana Maria Naimasi pick up the loose ball and set up Solikoviti for her second try.

New Zealand looked to their speedster Portia Woodman and she replied with a sprint for the Ferns' second try to level the scores at 12-all.

The restart failed to go 10 metres and the Fijiana capitalised with Uluinasau sprinting away after being put through the gap by Naimasi to lead 17-12.

The Black Ferns never looked like they were going away as they attacked the Fijian line with some brilliant phases of play.

They were rewarded with a try to tie the game at 17-all at full-time.

The Black Ferns went on to score the winner in extra time and booked their spot in the gold medal match against France at 9pm.

Fiji and Great Britain square off at 8.30pm.
