The absence of tourists in the Northern Marianas due to Covid-19 has provided an opportunity for much needed maintenance on run-down tourist sites.

The Marianas Visitors Authority said it was planning to set aside $US100,000 for the repair of sites, including broken restrooms and railings.

The authority's managing director, Priscilla Iakopo, said locals should visit the tourist sites and provide feedback on what work is needed.

The CNMI has set 15 July as the date it welcomes back tourists but there's no certainty visitors from its main markets of China, South Korea and Japan will return in droves.
