Three teenagers in New Caledonia have been charged over a break-in during which an 80-year-old woman was seriously injured.

The woman is said to be in an alarming condition in hospital since the incident last Sunday.
Two of the teenagers, who are below the age of 16, are in state care while the third one has been detained.
The group reportedly tried to steal lychees from her garden but then entered her home where they unsuccessfully tried to take s safe.
More than half of burglaries in New Caledonia are committed by minors.
