A former Vanuatu police officer has received a suspended sentence after he was convicted of selling a rifle without authorisation.
The former officer, whose identity was suppressed, sold the point-22 rifle when he was in charge of the police armoury.
He was paid $US465 for the weapon by a man who believed he would receive a brand new rifle.
When he found the gun was not new, he complained to the former officer and later the police.
The former officer was given a five-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay the money back.
