630,000 registered to vote in Fiji

More than 630,000 voters have registered to vote in Fiji's general election to be held this year.

The Fijian Elections Office has tallied up the number of people registering so far after a registration drive in peparation for the elections which are due before the end of this year.

The Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said a little over 3,500 new registrations have been recorded in the last month bringing the total to 631,895.

He says there's still time for people to register or change their details until the writ of election is announced.

About 85 percent of Fiji's 591,101 registered voters voted in the last election four years ago.
