Murray McCully, who was New Zealand's Foreign Minister from 2008 until last year, recently took up the position amoung others in the private sector.

Mr McCully said he had spoken with visiting PNG ministers who wanted to move away from the oil and gas industries.

"They've made clear their desire to see more New Zealand support in areas like agrictulture, both from a point of view of government enforcement and support agencies like food safety and in terms of food technology and farming practices."

Mr McCully would lead a mission to PNG in August to meet with businesses and politicians and discuss future engagement, he said.
