The Vanuatu Government has agreed to pay the salaries of 800 early childhood education (ECE) teachers.
The chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Derek Alexander, said the salaries would vary depending on training level.
Early childhood teachers in the country can have formal vocational training or community based training.
Mr Alexander told the Daily Post newspaper that the government intended to phase out community trained teachers and employ only government trained early childhood teachers.
