A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off the south eastern edge of the Vanuatu's island of Pentecost this morning.

The US Geological Survey said the quake's epicentre was 99 kilometres east of Lakatoro at a depth of 270 kilometres.
The tremor was registered at about 5:30am local time.
