Three members of a criminal gang in Papua New Guinea's Lae are dead following a botched armed robbery on Monday.
One other member of the gang has been hospitalised following a shoot-out with police in downtown Lae.
The Post Courier reports among the injured are a police officer who sustained pellet wounds and the owner of the shop where the attempted hold-up occurred.
Lae Police Metropolitan Commander Chief Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr confirmed a running gun battle took place and police killed three armed men and wounded one in the left leg.
He said the criminals were quite daring to shoot at police, not only once, but on more than seven occasions with police in pursuit by vehicle and on foot.
