In an effort to reduce power consumption and costs, the Northern Marianas government is putting in prepaid meters at all its offices.
The Governor Ralph Torres said the conversion will ensure greater accountability for the government's power usage.
And he said the overall goal is to clear ongoing debts owed to the utility company, the Commonwealth Utility Corporation.
Over the past three months, more than 400 meters have been installed in government departments and agencies and testing of these systems is ongoing to ensure efficient implementation.
