The former All Black and Manu Samoa rugby star Va'aiga Tuigamala is reportedly embroiled in a power struggle with the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association.

The Samoa Observer reported that the government had appointed a tribunal to look into Tuigamala's ousting as president of the association in November after only a year in the role.

The tribunal would investigate whether the association complied with procedures in its own constitution when Tuigamala was dismissed, and whether the current executive membership of the association had obtained their positions appropriately, the Observer said.

Tuigamala did not comment to the newspaper but the association's secretary, Faletolu Su'a, said correct procedure was followed when Tuigamala was sacked at last year's annual general meeting.

The only issue was that the former rugby star did not want to let the position go, Su'a said.
