Our correspondent in Vanuatu says Bishop Ligo's body was flown to the capital, Port Vila where the Prime Minister, his Cabinet and members of the diplomatic corps paid their last respects yesterday morning before he was laid to rest at Teouma Valley on Efate.

The cause of death is not yet known.

Bishop Ligo was consecrated and installed as Bishop of Vanuatu and New Caledonia on the 15 of October in 2006.

It is one of eight dioceses that make up the Anglican Church of Melanesia.

Bishop James Ligo was also the chairperson of the Vanuatu Christian Council.
