The 6.8 magnitude quake struck about 200 kilometres off Apia at a depth of about 32 kilomteres.

Our correspondent in Samoa Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia said people were terrified as the quake reminded them of the disastrous tsunami that hit in 2009.

"I think the powerful earthquake the way it happened, it really scary because it went on for about almost a minute and I think people starting to feel the earthquake back in 2009, but you know luckily there was no Tsunami warning."

Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia said he hadn't felt any aftershocks.
