The Fiji military is set to assume policing functions in an effort to fight crime.

The military commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto has told FBC News the military is always there if the police need assistance.

Police say a task force team has now been formed to increase their visibility and they would also try to provide a quick response to those victimised by home invasions, burglaries, and robberies.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said the military was very much aware of the criminality that was happening nowadays.
