The family of a woman who died in the Cook Islands' Rarotonga Hospital earlier this month have called on the government to hold an inquiry into her death.

Family member and local lawyer Wilkie Rasmussen said the late woman's relatives met shortly after her funeral and decided to press ahead with their pursuit of answers.
Mr Rasmussen said the 51-year-old woman apparently died of pneumonia a day after visiting the outpatient clinic and being sent home with Panadol tablets.
The lawyer said this is the second time a woman from the Penrhyn community on Rarotonga has died of pneumonia after being sent home, presumably without undergoing a full physical examination and chest x-ray.
He said the family will first ask the Medical and Dental Council to conduct a thorough investigation of the death.
