US embassy kicks off literacy programme in Samoa

10:04 am on 8 April 2017

Lepea Primary School in Samoa has been presented with over 600 reading and reference books from the US Embassy.

The Samoa Observer reports the donation marks the first of the Embassy's 'Faitau = Atamai' book drive for 2017.

The Ministry of Education, Sports, and Culture, the Rotary Club of Apia, and Peace Corps are all working together on the project.

The efforts will enable nearly 50 schools around both islands to receive over 25,000 books.

The embassy said the programme builds on their goal of promoting educational opportunities for Samoan students and developing links between the US and Samoa through the provision of educational resources.
