Sport: PNG Football appeal red card

The Papua New Guinea Football Association has appealed to FIFA over David Browne's sending off in last week's World Cup qualifying defeat against Tahiti.

The debutant was shown a red card in the 22nd minute of Thursday's 1-3 defeat in Port Moresby, for an elbow to the face of Toa Aito defender Taumihau Tiatia.

The PNG Football Association said Browne was given his marching orders in unjust fashion, arguing that Tiatia went down under what appeared to be an innocuous challenge.

The case will be submitted to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee when they meet on April 20.

Browne remained suspended for tomorrow's return leg in Tahiti but will be free to play both matches against Solomon Islands next month.
