According to ground reports, the fire at Tabari Place in Boroko, which began yesterday, has destroyed several businesses.
Despite having a station just a few hundred metres away, the Fire Service has been unable to quell the fire, due to a reported lack of pressure from water mains.
The fire is understood to have attracted a throng of looters, with police reportedly firing rounds of ammunition this afternoon in an attempt to disperse them.
