All 20 members voted for the bill which prohibits the use of mobile devices while operating a vehicle, unless the device is designed for hands-free operation.

The Marianas Variety reports a violation will be punishable by a fine of up to $US200.

The proposed restriction does not apply to people using a device for emergency purposes or services.
