Samoa health manager responds to hospital criticism

Samoa's health manager has responded to complaints about hospital staffing and funding, saying the $US 28.3 million US dollar budget is enough.

The Samoa Observer reports a prominent business person, Moe Lei Sam, had criticised the hospital service after visiting as a patient.

She said there should be more beds, and observed that staff seemed to be overworked.

The General Manager of the National Health Services Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe, said there was an increased number of people presenting at the hospital but staff are coping.

She said the government was always poised to help financially if it was needed, and the everyday operations of the health services were unpredictable.
