13 Papua New Guinea Defence Force soldiers have been found guilty on two of four counts of mutiny brought against them.

All 13 were guilty of not complying with orders to withdraw from Hela Province in 2014.

Eight of the soldiers were also found guilty of refusing to board a Defence Force helicopter after it was sent to take them to Port Moresby.

The Post Courier reports the events occurred in late 2014 after the government approved a Defence Force takeover of the old ExxonMobil Momo Base.

Thirty soldiers were deployed to Hela, but there were problems with funding and reports the soldiers were using illegal means to feed themselves and provide fuel, which prompted the order for their withdrawal.
