PNG health workers warned not to protest

Papua New Guinea health workers have been warned not to join protests against the prime minister Peter O'Neill.

This came as university student groups around the country had been boycotting classes for weeks in ongoing protests calling for Mr O'Neill to stand aside to face police questioning regarding an allaged fraud case.

The newspaper, The National, reported the Health secretary Pascoe Kase as saying all health workers had to refrain from joining the protest, reminding them that as public servants they must serve the government of the day.

Mr Kase sent a circular to all health workers to this effect.

Despite this, the National Doctors' Association supported the students' call for the prime minister to step down from office.
