The Papua New Guinea Hunters have opted for two experienced heads to share the captaincy duties in the upcoming Queensland Cup rugby league season.

Second rower Adam Korave and centre Noel Zeming will lead the Hunters in their third campaign as they bid to improve on last year's run to their preliminary final.

Both players have been with the club since its inception and have represented the PNG Kumuls national team over the past two seasons.

With inaugural skipper Israel Eliab moving to the UK Super League and nine new faces among the 25-man squad, head coach Michael Marum said he wanted some senior heads to lead from the front.

"We only had two more boys that were probably experienced enough to lead the boys out on the training field so Noel and Adam I think have both had the leadership roles that we wanted [during] pre season. We still have players like Wartovo [Puara] and Ase Boas that would have made the captaincy too but we've decided to stick with those two first."

The Hunters begin the season away to Souths Logan Magpies next weekend.
