Masefau village in American Samoa has accepted a gift of US$10,000 from the government after it picked another village for the Flag Day entertainment this April.

Masefau had volunteered to perform after the Eastern District governor Alo Paul Stevenson had struggled to get villages to entertain.

The village had been practising for about a month when it was notified by the Flag Day committee of the change and that Masefau was no longer on the programme.

Though disappointed the village has accepted the decision.

Last Friday, the co chairs of the Flag Day committee, the lieutenant governor, Lemanu Peleti Mauga and the secretary of Samoan affairs, Mauga Tasi Asuega, made a formal apology to Masefau and presented the gift of cash.
